“Sometimes
dead is better.”
For me, it’s
difficult to say much about this book without spoiling it.
Louis Creed and
his family moved to Maine (yes, Maine again). Wife, daughter, infant son, and a
cat named Church. It sounds like a sweet story, even begins like a normal one,
except King wrote it. It is a chilling story about, you guessed it, death, how
natural it is, and how little that matters to grief.
As can be
expected with King’s books, it slows down in some parts. It isn’t just a quick,
action-packed story. An old complaint about King’s stories is the length and
sometimes the slow start. There’s quite some build up before the action kicks
in. Even though I like King’s book, they take me a bit longer to finish.
I’ve always
been curious to know what effect King’s books would have had on me if I read
them when I was younger. By the time I really got into his books, I had become
more impervious to horror. Would it have crafted my nightmares as much as
others say it did theirs?
If you pay
attention, there’s a small reference to ‘Salem’s
Lot. I know some people find it corny when King tips a hat to his other
stories, but I enjoy it. This probably wouldn’t be the first King book I would
recommend, but it is good.
Even though I haven't been a fan of the film or TV adaptation of King's works, I feel like checking this one out.

Stephen King,
we know who he is.

uniquely portable magic.” –Stephen King
