Books Winning 2017

It’s a pretty self-explanatory title. This is all about what books I liked most in 2017 because of course you have to do this sort of post at the very end of a year.
Disclaimer: These are books that I read in 2017, not those published in 2017
This year has not been a great year in terms of number of books read, but college and grad school entrance exams interfere with that type of thing. I have written a review post for each of these books. I have faith in your searching capabilities. Without further ado, these were the favorite books I read in 2017.
In the Woods by Tana French
This is not an ordered list. I didn’t bother with that, but In the Woods was probably my favorite book of 2017. If you haven’t read it, you should plan to. Otherwise, what are you even doing with your life?
Alice by Christina Henry
I loved so much about this book: the magic, its darkness, the Alice in Wonderland stuff. It was beautiful as a nightmare threatening to tear open my mind.
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
I only wanted to choose one King book for this list, and this one was more interesting. Sorry, Father Callahan.
The Child Thief by Brom
This year was a good year for retellings. The illustrations are amazing. The writing is amazing. The characters, the setting, everything in this book is amazing.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling
Of course I have to add this book. No surprise. No shame.

Honorary mentions (I liked these books but not enough to warrant really making it to the list):
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Going Bovine by Libba Bray
Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
The Devil’s Intern by Donna Hosie
The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen
Worst book of 2017:
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
I’m sorry, but I wound up despising this book. It was far too long. It was far too uninteresting. To quote myself, “I will never condone burning books, but if I ever have to choose one, this will be it.”

Now, let’s head into 2018 hoping it’s a great year of reading for all. Going into the new year: read, strive for self-improvement always, fail, learn, and go fail again.
